Marvel’s Avengers STATION (Las Vegas)

During the summer of 2019 I worked on this exhibit as part of my internship with Smart Monkeys Inc. The Avengers exhibit is an interactive walk through exhibit located in the Treasure Island Casino in Las Vegas. The exhibit features many different forms of interactive content such as touch screen games, motion triggered lighting and smoke, dynamic projections and more. During my time on the project I worked on network configuration/management and show control programming for their Alcorn McBride Binloop system. During this time I worked with other contractor groups for lighting and audio to meet the creative goals set by the project manager. Eventually I was placed as the lead member from Smart Monkeys on the project.

During my time with Smart Monkeys I also worked on a handful of other projects which included LUA scripting for Medialon and QSYS, a dynamic HTML video program, and creating a database for equipment purchasing complete with GUI.

Husky Game Development

I am currently the president of Husky Game Development which is a student run game development group at Michigan Technological University. Our group is comprised of typically around 7-10 smaller development teams each working on their own games in engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine. During my time with the organization I have worked to incorporate the use of audio middleware such as Wwise and Fmod and served as an audio programmer/sound designer for 7 games. Soundscape Generator

The Soundscape Generator is a Max patch that I created that when combined with an Arduino (or other external form of input) allows for the creation of an interactive soundscape for display in a public setting. Using an iPad interface as well as serial input, this patch works by remembering the millisecond in the larger loop (or soundscape) at which an event was triggered so that it can be continually triggered as the content loops. As participants interact with the exhibit, the soundscape being played continues to change as new event sounds are being added with each interaction. To avoid an overabundance or crowding of the soundscape, it is possible to parameterize how many loop locations are being held by each event trigger. The goal of this project was to create a program that allowed for audio art installations that would constantly evolve and change as they were interacted with by the public.

Michigan Tech Athletics Broadcast

For over 2 years I have served as the lead broadcast engineer for Michigan Tech Athletics. I have also been the systems designer for the athletics program’s upcoming system overall. As part of this I specified, budgeted, and drafted a new networked audio system. In addition I am currently working on the QSYS programming which will be used to run the system. This design includes custom LUA scripting and separate GUIs for each venue to be able to control not only in house audio, but also routing to the production room for broadcast. Our operation is responsible for the online broadcast of all in house sports being played at Michigan Tech as well as coordinating with local television stations to provide an on air broadcast. As the lead engineer I have been responsible for operating, upgrading and maintaining our audio/video systems which span across three different sports venues.

Location Recording

In the summer of 2017 I worked on location recording for my grant funded by the Michigan Tech Student Undergraduate Research Foundation. My research was focused on looking the impact that non-native sounds (noise pollution) can have on the soundscape of environments. All recordings were done at locations of preserved natural significance such as the Porcupine Mountains State Park as seen on the right. Recordings were done at different times of the day to track how the soundscape naturally changes while also taking note of moments with outside interference, such as traffic from nearby roads.
